Collaboration between the court system and treatment for individuals facing felony drug charges.
In conjunction with First District Court, individuals with pending felony drug charges are offered the option of counseling and case management. Drug Court participants agree to follow a strict program of counseling, work and/or school, and case management. Graduates of the one to three year process will have maintained a minimum of six months clean time; gained an understanding of high risk behaviors, and a knowledge of chemicals and their affects; developed a recovery and relapse prevention plan; assembled a continued support system; and practiced a lifestyle that is self-supporting in a safe living environment. Upon graduation, felony charges are dismissed or reduced. Drug Court cases are determined by a Drug Court committee which includes the presiding Drug Court judge, probation and law enforcement, court appointed attorneys, and treatment personnel.
